Adelaide Oval will retain its historic Day-Night Test match after Cricket South Africa today confirmed their participation in the third Commonwealth Bank Day-Night Test scheduled for Adelaide from 24 November.
This will mark another historic 2016-17 summer with Australia hosting two Commonwealth Bank Day-Night Tests, the second being in Brisbane against Pakistan from 15 December.
Last year’s Commonwealth Bank Test match at Adelaide Oval between Australia and New Zealand saw more than 123,000 fans attend, making it the highest non-Ashes attendance in Adelaide Oval’s history.
SACA Chief Executive, Keith Bradshaw said he is thrilled with the outcome for both SACA Members and fans across the state.
“We have a fantastic Test match against one of the leading Test playing nations in the world and we are going to see a great spectacle,” Bradshaw said.
“It’s all about putting fans first and the 123,000 people who attended across three days last year proved that it was a success. We had an overwhelming number of people travel to Adelaide from interstate which was a great result for South Australia.”
“We saw a thrilling contest between bat and ball last year and there is no doubt Adelaide Oval will again prove to be a fantastic venue to host day-night cricket.”
Cricket Australia CEO, James Sutherland thanked Cricket South Africa for their support and is looking forward to a big summer of cricket ahead.
“Cricket fans will be delighted to hear the news that the third match of the Test series against South Africa will be played as a day-night match, particularly those planning to attend Adelaide Oval,” Mr Sutherland said.
The Proteas are scheduled to arrive in Australia in mid-October and will proceed immediately to Adelaide to play a two-day tour match under lights as part of their preparations. An additional two-day warm-up match under lights prior to the third test is also scheduled, giving the players a further opportunity to acclimatise to the pink ball.
