The South Australian employment market is about to start seeing the benefits of the Adelaide Oval redevelopment with advertising for approximately 500 casual positions to start today (Monday, July 15).

Chefs, cooks, supervisors, baristas, bar and functions staff will be among those in demand as the Oval gears up for the Ashes in December.

In all, approximately 1200 casual and part-time jobs will be filled by the first bounce of the 2014 AFL season, with many of these positions expected to be taken up by existing SANFL and SACA staff.

“First opportunity for positions available at Adelaide Oval has been given to existing SANFL and SACA staff,” said Andrew Daniels, Chief Executive Officer of the Adelaide Oval Stadium Management Authority.

“Applications will open to all other job seekers on Monday, July 15 and we are anticipating there will be approximately 500 casual positions available to the general public as part of this process.

“Adelaide Oval will become South Australia’s largest single site employer of food and beverage staff. It’s going to be an extremely busy and high-pressure environment – as well as tremendously exciting – so we’re looking for the right people to join us and get to work.”

Retail food and beverage positions make up the biggest chunk of the available positions, with more than 500 staff required to serve patrons at the Oval across the year. 50 baristas are needed, along with 230 front-of-house employees and approximately 200 customer service positions.

The Adelaide Oval will play host to more than 40 days of major sporting events every year as well as a multitude of other corporate entertainment, concerts and tourism events.

“The eyes of the world will be on Adelaide for the Ashes when we effectively open again for business,” Mr Daniels said.

“We hope we will be inundated with passionate job seekers eager to be a part of this new chapter in the history of the Adelaide Oval.”
