Saturday night’s BBL semi-final crowd has broken the record for a sporting event at the redeveloped Adelaide Oval. 52,633 packed the Oval to see the Strikers take on the Sixers.
Port Adelaide currently hold the crowd record for an AFL match with 52,505 attending the Port v Carlton match in Round 22 of the 2014 AFL Premiership Season and 54,115 rocked the Oval for the Rolling Stones concert in October, 2014.
“It is just fantastic to see the pride South Australian’s have in their new Adelaide Oval. They have passionately embraced the redeveloped stadium and continue to attend in their droves. Tonight’s crowd is testament to the Adelaide Strikers performance both on and off the field. They’ve certainly put on a spectacle and set the benchmark for BBL fixtures,” said Andrew Daniels, CEO Adelaide Oval SMA Ltd.
Adelaide Oval looks forward to welcoming thousands more fans to the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup and 2015 AFL season.
