The Adelaide Oval Stadium Management Authority has today made the difficult decision to indefinitely continue its stand down of staff.
The timeline of steps taken so far is as follows:
– Thursday 12 March: Freeze is placed on discretionary spending, capital expenditure, hiring and work-related travel
– Sunday 15 March: All of Adelaide Oval’s 1,500-strong casual staff team are advised that there are no shifts available and are stood down
– Monday 16 March: Approximately 180 (around 85%) of Adelaide Oval’s permanent staff go on paid leave and stringent cost mitigation measures are implemented including full stadium closure
The organisation has now determined to formally stand down the majority of its permanent workforce indefinitely from the close of business on Friday 27 March. These staff will be stood down without pay once any annual leave and long service leave entitlements have been exhausted.
A small team of core operations staff will remain but have been asked to take a 30% reduction in pay. CEO Andrew Daniels will take a 50% cut to his salary.

“These measures are designed to enable us to keep maintaining Adelaide Oval for the people of South Australia and to provide us with the ability to return to normal operations as soon as possible.”
Counselling is being made available to any employee requiring assistance through the Adelaide Oval Employee Assistance Program. In addition, the Adelaide Oval SMA will support employees requiring help to access Federal Government assistance.
The shutdown will not impact construction work on the Oval Hotel.
