The Rolling Stones will play at Adelaide Oval on March 22 next year in a spectacular concert to celebrate the opening of the $535 million redeveloped stadium.

The concert will be the largest outdoor production in the band’s Australian tour and the only full production using the stage from the Stones’ famous Hyde Park performance.

Premier Jay Weatherill today confirmed the Government is providing $450,000 to secure The Rolling Stones, which will be the first time in almost 20 years the band has performed in Adelaide.

“To have the only full-scale stadium show in The Rolling Stones’ Australian tour is a coup for Adelaide,” Mr Weatherill said.

“With an Ashes Test Match, a major international rock act and a footy Showdown in store in coming months, the excitement surrounding Adelaide Oval is building every day.

“Hosting the world’s greatest rock and roll band at Adelaide Oval will be a superb way to celebrate the completion of our world-class stadium.

“I understand that Mick Jagger is an avid cricket fan and is very excited to be playing the first concert at the new Adelaide Oval.

“The concert will bring in thousands of interstate and international visitors who will want to experience the only full-scale production in Australia.”

Adelaide Oval Stadium Management Authority chief executive officer Andrew Daniels said the Rolling Stones would be the first of many great acts to come to South Australia as a result of the redevelopment.

“This is testament to the investment that has gone into this venue and the fact that it has well and truly put South Australia back on the map for global acts,” Mr Daniels said.

The Rolling Stones will be brought to Adelaide by International Entertainment Consulting, AEG Live and Frontier Touring. The redevelopment of Adelaide Oval will be completed in March, ahead of an AFL Showdown between Adelaide and Port Adelaide on March 29.
