Adelaide Oval was a big winner at TheStadium Business Awards overnight, claiming the international award for the Event of the Year for the 2016 Hyundai A-League Grand Final between Adelaide United and the Western Sydney Wanderers.
Presented during TheStadiumBusiness Summit in Dublin, Ireland, TheStadiumBusiness Awards now in their eighth year, recognise leadership, innovation and achievement in the delivery, operation and management of sports facilities globally.
The Hyundai A-League Grand Final event overcame tough competition including Allianz Stadium’s Sydney 7s event, a boxing world title fight at Goodison Park in Liverpool and big ticket events in Twickenham Stadium (UK), Levi’s Stadium (USA) and Estadio Azteca (Mexico).
Adelaide Oval SMA CEO Andrew Daniels was in Dublin to accept the award.
“We’re delighted the hosting of the Hyundai A-League Grand Final has been recognised on the global stage, not only because it was a brilliant event but also because it underlines Adelaide Oval’s credentials in terms of the world game,” Mr Daniels said.
“We have now hosted the likes of Liverpool, two World Cup qualifying games and a number of A-League games including the final and each has been an outstanding soccer event in its own right.
“It’s a credit to Damian Hough and our grounds crew as well as our entire team for the practiced way in which the Oval is able to seamlessly switch between events and bring the best of everything to Adelaide.”
More than 51,000 fans packed out Adelaide Oval to see Adelaide United take out the A-League title with a convincing 3-1 win over the Western Sydney Wanderers.
Adelaide Oval has now received 43 State, national and international awards since its redevelopment.
